This book consists of a collection of papers on the subject of Christian authority, gathered in recognition of the work of Henry Chadwick. The subject is one of continuing importance and topicality and the essays approach the problems with which they are concerned by looking at the sources of old controversies in the context of time, and considering the issues to be learnt from them. The book may be of interest to historians and theologians and strives to exemplify the theolgical method which is being developed by current ecumenical conversations.
