This book is an exploration of the biblical and theological themes in the Common Worship Eucharistic texts. The theological formation of many Christians takes place during their weekly celebration of the Eucharist. The language of the Eucharist has a deep impact on the way that people think about God and about themselves. The problem today is that fewer and fewer Christians have any idea about the content and significance of many of the allusions that can be found in the liturgical texts. Using the liturgical expertise of Michael Perham and the biblical expertise of Paula Gooder, this book explains the major biblical resonances of the Common Worship Eucharistic texts. The book will take the shape of the texts as they are found in Common Worship and will offer brief reflections on each in turn.

Paula Gooder, Michael Perham

Paula Gooder is a writer and lecturer in Biblical Studies. Her previous books include Searching for Meaning (SPCK 2008) and Heaven (SPCK 2011). Michael Perham was a key architect of Common Worship and formerly the bishop of Gloucester. His many reflective and liturgical publications have inspired, challenged, strengthened and nourished Christians and others on their spiritual journeys. These include popular SPCK titles To Tell Afresh, Glory in Our Midst, Celebrating the Christian Year, and the New Handbook of Pastoral Liturgy. He died in 2017.
