Born into a famous Christian family, director of the well-known Hildenborough retreat centre and with his own highly-effective evangelistic ministry to young people, he was considered a leading figure in the British evangelical church.

But a series of events - which he perceived as promises broken by God - led to feelings of bitterness and confusion over the foundations of everything his life was based upon. How was he to continue preaching? How was he to explain his loss of faith to his wife, and children?

Ultimately, he did not find God again; rather, God found him, and taught him a new, stronger faith, rooted in trust in his love and compassion.
