Stories help us interpret what we see, hear, and feel; teach us life lessons; interpret the present in terms of the past; and hint at ways to prepare for the future. Telling Our Stories encourages us to share the story of our faith and to try to understand the faith experience of our Christian neighbors. While denominations are often engaged in ecumenical dialogue at the leadership level, Telling Our Stories is filled with concrete stories of ordinary people's gripping ecumenical encounters with others. Formed around different voices, stories, memories, and reflections, Telling Our Stories offers hope for ecumenical conversation in a variety of places and an eagerness to visit, maybe even inhabit--the surprising new areas where these conversations might lead. Each chapter in the book is followed by questions and activities to help readers to remember, recall stories, and to contribute to building bridges across faith traditions, while maintaining the integrity of their own. Chapters under Part I: Beginning are "Gathering Neighbors," "Exchanging Stories," "and "Confronting Challenges." Chapters under Part II: Learning to be Neighbors are "Listening to the Sages," "Living into Virtues," and "Shaping Hearts." Chapters under Part III: Living as Neighbors include "Journeying Together," "Standing in Faith," and "Envisioning Hope."
