Rybolt (Liturgical Press). John E. Rybolt is a priest of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian). He studied at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and earned a Ph.D. in Biblical Languages and Literature from St. Louis University. He served as Rector and Professor of Old Testament at both DeAndreis Seminary, Lemont, Illinois, and Saint Thomas Seminary, Denver, Colorado. Formerly an associate editor of Old Testament Abstracts, he is also the author of The Vincentians. A General History of the Congregation of the Mission, a 6 vol. work in the process of publication. Wisdom is a deuterocanonical book of the Old Testament, meaning that it was written in Greek, rather than Hebrew, and was never accepted as canonical by the Jewish people. Its value for Catholics is immense because of its proclamation of the immortality of the souls of the righteous and its insights into God's gift of wisdom to the human race. Those who seek wisdom find God. While never quoted in the New Testament, the Book of Wisdom appears to have a strong influence on tithe praise extolled on the female person of Wisdom became a stepping stone for John's description of the Word that was in the beginning with God.
