As a teenager, Michael Curry served as a part of the "Youth Presence" at General Convention 1979. While there, he met Barbara Harris, not yet a priest. The story of their friendship is one that tracks the history of the Episcopal Church over the intervening years.

In this volume, the two talk about a wide range of topics—their families and the strong women who shaped them, the vocation of the priesthood and the episcopacy, and social justice, among others—in a conversation facilitated and edited by Fredrica Harris Thompsett.

Michael B. Curry, Barbara Harris, Fredrica Harris Thompsett

Michael B. Curry, serves the Episcopal Church as its 27th Presiding Bishop. He was the Bishop of North Carolina from 2000 to 2015. He has had a national preaching and teaching ministry and is a frequent speaker at conferences around the country. Barbara C. Harris was the first woman elected to the episcopacy within the Anglican Communion. Now actively retired, she lives in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Fredrica Harris Thompsett is the Mary Wolfe professor of historical theology at the Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA, where she has also served as academic dean for fourteen years.

"'Jesus can't make everybody happy, and neither can you,' Barbara Harris tells Michael Curry in this powerful and readable chronicle of conversations between these two giants of Episcopal faith, leadership and preaching. By turns inspiring, funny, and provoking, In Conversation is the book we all need in these days when the arc of the moral universe seems far too long. I will treasure it as I treasure these two dear friends and pioneers." - The Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, President, House of Deputies of The Episcopal Church
