Ted Scott fixed his energy on persons, while at the same time working fervently to address the systemic issues affecting the poor and oppressed, the marginalised and weak. The book is also a story of the turbulent times in which Scott lived -- the Great Depression of the 1930s and the near-collapse of Western capitalism, the horror of the second world war and the nuclear age, the 1960s with their optimistic belief that people acting together could change the world, and the 1970s and 1980s when globalising market forces threatened both lands and livelihoods.
