What gives meaning to our lives? How can we live a life shared with others? The seasons of Lent and Easter are traditionally times to reflect upon such fundamental questions as these. In this gentle, reflective book, Jane Williams encourages us to make space for reflection and, in so doing, to draw closer to God. As she moves through Lent to Good Friday and Easter, the author explores themes such as food, power, love, anger, fear and complicity, compassion, and waiting. In each chapter, she blends personal story, spiritual reflection, and quotations from scripture or other sources to offer an imaginative and powerful way into the meaning of the season. Illustrated throughout with fine art, Approaching Easter is a beautiful and rewarding seasonal companion.

Jane Williams

Jane was born in India, one of five sisters, and read Theology at Cambridge University before going on to work in theological publishing and education. She is a tutor in Theology at St Mellitus College, London and Chelmsford, and a Visiting Lecturer at King's College, London. She also works as a Lecturer at the St Paul's Theological Centre, and for Redemptorist Publications. She is the author of several books including Approaching Easter, Approaching Christmas, Angel and mst recently Faces of Christ. Jane has been married to Rowan since 1981 and together they have a son and a daughter. Jane Williams said many Christians felt uncomfortable talking about their beliefs and feared that doing so was 'not politically correct'. But 'lazy' and 'scornful' attitudes towards people of faith in Britain must be challenged, she said, urging Christians to be more prepared to 'argue our corner'.

"This is the sort of book that Lion have made their own. Beautiful colour illustrations combine with thoughtful but not overly demanding text, of a length making it suitable for a gift or personal use. Here Jane Williams, wife to Rowan, writes on the journey through the season of Lent to Easter. Exploring themes such as food, power, love, anger, fear and compassion this mix of reflection, story and scripture would make a decent gift at Easter." * Christian Marketplace * "Jane Williams...writes engagingly about many aspects of Lent and Easter...It is a down-to-earth, intelligent and generous volume and astonishingly good value for money." * The Tablet *
