Is God a delusion? Are science and Christian faith incompatible? Ten scientists tell their stories. Test of Faith is an innovative new resource designed for use by small groups wishing to explore big issues raised by science for both faith and ethics. It introduces a wide range of hot topics including: * Are science and Christianity in conflict? * Has the Big Bang pushed God out of the universe? * Is evolution compatible with religious faith? * Is cloning ethical? * Are humans no more than biological machines? Contributors include: Dr Francis Collins, Professor Alister McGrath, Dr Ard Louis, Dr Jennifer Wiseman, Professor Bill Newsome, Rev Dr John Polkinghorn, Rev Dr Alasdair Coles, Dr Deborah B. Haarsma, Professor Rosalind Picard, Professor John Bryant. Test of Faith is designed to enable non-specialists to join the discussion. It allows small groups to unpack these issues, and discuss them at a level and pace that suits the group. It is flexible so that users can choose the topics that they want to cover. This Leader's Guide accompanies the Test of Faith DVD, and provides all the content of the Study Guide plus suggested responses to questions, critical background information, and opportunities for taking these issues further. The videos for this course are now available on https://www.youtube.com/user/thetestoffaith. Downloadable versions of the bonus interviews are available, alongside many other resources, on testoffaith.com.

Ruth Bancewicz, Faraday Institute For Science And Religion

Ruth Bancewicz is a research associate at the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion, working on the positive interaction between science and faith, and the 'Test of FAITH' resources project. After reading Genetics at Aberdeen University, she completed a PhD at Edinburgh University, based at the MRC Human Genetics Unit, working on gene-environment interactions during verterbrate development. She spent two years as a part-time postdoctoral researcher at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, Edinburgh University, while also working as the Development Officer for Christians in Science - a post she held for three years, before moving full-time to the Faraday Institute to develop the 'Test of FAITH' resources, the first of which were launched in 2009. [The Faraday Institute for Science and Religion is an academic research enterprise based at St Edmund's College, Cambridge. The Institute has four main activities: 1.Scholarly research and publication on science and religion, including the organisation of invited groups of experts to write joint publications. 2.To provide short-term courses in science and religion. 3.To organise seminars and lectures on science and religion. 4.To provide accurate information on science and religion for the international media and wider public. The Faraday Institute has a Christian ethos, but encourages engagement with a wide diversity of opinions concerning interactions between science and religion, without engaging in advocacy. It aims to provide accurate information in order to facilitate informed debate. The Faraday Institute derives its name from Michael Faraday (1791-1867), one of Britain's best-known scientists, who saw his faith as integral to his scientific research.]
