When he talked about the Kingdom of God, Jesus was speaking about an utterly different way of relating to human society as we know it. He lays out a blueprint for this new life in his best-known teaching, the Sermon on the Mount. From the Beatitudes onward, the Sermon on the Mount overturns conventional wisdom and traditional power structures, offering a plan for an alternative way of being. Richard Rohr explores the implications of this vision in Jesus’ Alternative Plan. Going through the teachings of the sermon, he explains the historical and cultural context of each verse, and offers guidance for what the sermon means for Christians today. The result is a clear, yet challenging look at the alternative plan laid out by Jesus for all to see. This updated edition of Jesus’ Plan for a New World will inspire Christians who long for a transformative understanding of Jesus’ teachings as they seek the true heart of their faith.

Richard Rohr

Richard Rohr, OFM, is a Franciscan priest of the New Mexico Province and the Founding Director of the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is the author of numerous books, including The Universal Christ (2019), Just This (2018), The Divine Dance (2016), Immortal Diamond (2013) and Falling Upward (2012), all published by SPCK.

Rohr sees the Christ everywhere, and not just in people. He reminds us that the first incarnation of God is in Creation itself, and he tells us that "God loves things by becoming them." Just for that sentence, and there are so many more, I cannot put this book down. -- Bono, U2 on THE UNIVERSAL CHRIST Fr Richard helps us to see and hear Jesus of Nazareth in what he taught, what he did and who he is - the loving, liberating and life-giving expression and presence of God. In so doing he is helping Christianity to reclaim its soul anew. -- Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in America on THE UNIVERSAL CHRIST Fr Richard challenges us to search beneath the surface of our faith and see what is sacred in everyone and everything. Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book. -- Melinda Gates, author of The Moment of Lift on THE UNIVERSAL CHRIST Rohr and Morrell have given us a liberating and yet totally orthodox invitation into the life of God. This book is a celebration of the Trinity, not as bad math (1+1+1=3), and not as baffling mystery to avoid, but as the divine movement of love. The Divine Dance is an example of why Rohr has had such a profound influence on so many Christians seeking to balance reason and mystery, action and contemplation, not to mention faith and real life. -- Nadia Bolz-Weber, Pastor, House for All Sinners and Saints on THE DIVINE DANCE Richard Rohr is one of the great spiritual masters of our time, indeed of any time. His superb new book on the Trinity is vintage Rohr: clearheaded, provocative, inspiring, challenging, and, most of all, suffused with the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Trinity will of course always remain a profound mystery, but after reading Father Rohr's book, you will experience it as a mystery that can, and will, transform your life. -- James Martin, SJ, Author, Jesus: A Pilgrimage and Seven Last Words on THE DIVINE DANCE
